Alvin Bragg began his legal career by clerking for federal district judge Robert P. Patterson Jr. He then joined the law firm Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello, focusing on white-collar fraud and civil rights issues. In 2003, he moved to the New York Attorney General's office under Eliot Spitzer and later served as the chief of litigation and investigations for the New York City Council. By 2009, he was an assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York.
In 2017, Bragg was appointed Chief Deputy Attorney General of New York by Eric Schneiderman. During his tenure, he oversaw significant lawsuits, including those against the Trump Foundation and Harvey Weinstein. He left this role in December 2018 and became a professor at New York Law School, co-directing the Racial Justice Project, and serving on the board of The Legal Aid Society.
